Treatment of anal fissure:

Non-surgical treatment of anal fissure:

Initial treatment includes adding bulk to the stool and softening the stool with psyllium or methylcellulose preparations. Taking regular fiber supplements, which ensures easier passage of stools, thereby avoiding further discomfort to the fissure. Increasing liquid intake and taking stool softeners such as Dulcolax® or mineral oil preparations at times helps reduce the pain and discomfort near the anal canal.

Frequent sitz baths are suggested. These involve soaking in warm water for 10 to 20 minutes, especially after bowel movements. Sitz baths will help relax the sphincter and encourage the healing. Soap or bubble baths iare generally not advised, as they may irritate the area.
