In General

First of all, if you are new to hosting with CouchSurfing, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the site. Take the time to fill out your profile completely, starting with your 'Couch Information.' Include a description and picture of your couch or sleeping area, any house rules you have, and any local tourist information or other information you may feel will aid potential guests. Next, fill in as much information as possible in your general profile. Be honest and sincere and you will attract Surfers with similar qualities, and be more likely to host people you'll really get along with. Even if you are a fan of meeting more random people by not giving everything about yourself away, try to include enough information to let them feel comfortable about you as a host (e.g. fill out the 'How I Participate in CS' and 'CouchSurfing Experience' sections).

Second, to be a good host, you should incorporate open-minded and well-rounded attitudes. Take the time to learn about other cultures, traditions, languages and customs. Study some world history, pay attention to the news occasionally and try, or learn to accept new things and change. If you have trouble with this or don't understand what I mean – don't worry. The more time you spend hosting people from diverse backgrounds, and really interacting with them, the more open-minded and well-rounded you will become as a host and a person.
